I like the latest version of Twitter for iPhone. It’s version 4.0. Visually pleasing and I feel that it is faster than the previous version.

WordPress 2.8.5 upgrade

WordPress 2.8.5 was released a few days ago. I have successfully upgraded mine a couple of minutes ago. It only took me less than a minute using the WordPress auto update function. This version is considered as a security upgrade thus is very important for all blog owners running on WordPress platform to perform the upgrade.

Here are the summary of changes in the 2.8.5 version:

Fix the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack.
Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables was evaluated.
Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for all users including Admins.
Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.

Got myself a new wireless router

Slightly more than 3 weeks ago, while on holiday out of town, my house was struck by a lighting. The damage:

An ADSL Modem
A Wireless Router (D-Link DI524)
A Samsung 21″ TV
A Philips DVD Player
An aircond
3 light bulbs

I managed to get the Modem to be replaced by my ISP a couple of days after that. Yesterday, I bought myself a ZyXEL P-320W V2 Wireless Router. The configuration wasn’t that smooth. My notebook just couldn’t log into the configuration page. I couldn’t even ping to 192.168.1.1 (which is the default IP for the router).

The router gave me a 169.xx.xx.xx something IP with subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. Reset the damn router a couple of times, did a couple of ipconfig /renew and /flushdns on my notebook, but it didn’t work. 2am, I went to bed.

Woke up at 5.50am this morning. First thing I did was to set a fixed IP 192.168.1.33, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway and DNS 192.168.1.1. And… finally managed to connect to the router configuration page. Did all the usual setup (SSID, WPA key, etc.). All done within 10 minutes.

And now, my house is wirelessly connected again.

What have I done with my Ubuntu 9.04 so far

Since successfully installed Ubuntu 9.04 a few days ago, I have been busy trying out things in the new OS. Below is what I have done/configured/installed/tried:

Wireless connection – this is very easy, it automatically detects any network and you just need to key in the WEP key if applicable.

VPN connection – successfully configured to connect through VPN to my office.

Terminal Server Client – tried this as well. Managed to connect to my client’s server with great speed.

Internet Explorer – managed to installed using Wine. You can refer to this website http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Installation:Ubuntu. (somehow I still need IE for my work).

Got PuTTy installed, tried and tested okay.

gFTP (FTP client) is up, tested working fine.

To do list:

To get Active-X working on the IE (need this for my work).

To install Genero Desktop Client (for work as well).

Migrating my MS Outlook emails (.pst) to Ubuntu. Heard that this is going to a major thing.

… and some others that I cannot think of now.
